Irish Sign Language definition

Irish Sign Language means the indigenous natural language of the Deaf community. It is a visual, spatial language which conveys meaning through the movement of the hands, combined with facial expressions and postures of the body. Sign Language has its own syntax and complex grammatical structure. Sign Language must be presented on a screen through the use of a signer as part of the audiovisual programme content, or by the use of a signer acting as an interpreter and positioned over the images on-screen.
