Isocenter definition

Isocenter means the center of the sphere through which the useful beam axis passes while the gantry moves through its full range of motions.
Isocenter means the center of the smallest sphere through which the beam axis passes when the equipment moves through a full range of rotations about its common center.
Isocenter means the virtual point in space about which the MRT unit operates and is placed at the center of the tumor for the delivery of the radiation treatment.

Examples of Isocenter in a sentence

  • Isocenter or reference point port localization films (anterior/posterior and lateral) should be obtained at each treatment on the treatment unit (or patients should undergo a tomographic imaging study on the linear accelerator couch, if available) immediately before treatment to ensure proper alignment of the geometric center (i.e., isocenter) of the simulated fields.

  • Iso-center is able to move in a three dimensional coordinate system (X, Y, Z).

  • Iso-center is considered to be (0, 0, 0) in Cartesian coordinates and is the theoretical center of the rotating array as seen in figure 1.Figure 1: Iso-center Location Electrical manipulation can be done to minimize the motion at iso-center.

  • Isocenter port localization films (anterior/posterior and lateral) should be obtained at each treatment on the treatment unit (or patients should undergo a tomographic imaging study utilizing the linear accelerator couch, if available) immediately before treatment to ensure proper alignment of the geometric center (i.e., isocenter) of the simulated fields.

  • Isocenter shifts larger than 5 mm were only recorded twice (2 patients, 1 posterior, 1 right, respectively; 0.38% of all fractions).
