Looked After and Previously Looked After Children A “looked after child” is a child in public care at the date on which the application is made.
Looked After Children and Previously Looked After Children: The School will ensure that staff have the skills, knowledge and understanding necessary to keep safe any children on roll who are looked after, or have been looked after, by the local authority.
Previously Looked After refers to those children who immediately after being looked after became subject to an adoption order, (under section 46 of the Adoption and Children Act 2002), residence order (under Section 8 of the Children Act 1989), or specialist guardianship order (under Section 14A of the Children Act 1989).
A Previously Looked After Child is a person under the age of 18 who, immediately after being looked after, became subject to an adoption order, a residence order (under section 8 of the Children Act 1989), or a special guardianship order (under section 14A of the Children Act 1989).
For Children Previously Looked After: this includes children who were adopted under the Adoption Act 1976 (see section 12 adoption orders) and children who were adopted.
This category also includes Internationally Adopted Previously Looked After Children (IAPLAC).
A Looked After Child or Previously Looked After Child may be admitted to the Academy above the Published Admission number if it is felt by the Academy, in consultation with the local authority that the Academy is the most appropriate placement to meet the needs of the individual child.
Previously Looked After Children are children who were looked after, but ceased to be so because they were adopted (or became subject to a residence order or special guardianship order).
Looked After and Previously Looked After Children Looked after and previously looked after children will be allocated places in this category by reference to the proximity of the child’s home address (as defined by this policy) to the Academy, with those living nearer receiving higher priority.
