This paper shows how the contest of projects has been regulated in the new Law 9/2017, of November 8, on Public Sector Contracts. In general, it maintains the system of its predecessor (Royal Legislative Decree 3/2011, of November 14, "which approves the revised text of the Public Sector Contracts Law"), but also incorporates some novelties, such as the provision that the object of the contract may include the facultative direction of the work; moreover, the law requires that the project contest be followed if the service contract that is going to be awarded refers to the drafting of architectural, engineering projects and urbanism of special complexity and joint works and the direction of the works are contracted together. It also opens the possibility that the limitation of the number of participants can be articulated in two phases. And it excludes the intervention of a hiring board.
