Background. Small Industries Development Bank of India (SIDBI), set up on April 2, 1990 under an Act of Indian Parliament, acts as the Principal Financial Institution for the Promotion, Financing and Development of the Micro, Small and Medium Enterprise (MSME) sector and for Co-ordination of the functions of the institutions engaged in similar activities. Financial support to MSMEs is provided by way of (a) indirect finance / refinance to eligible Primary Lending Institutions (PLIs), such as, banks, State Financial Corporations (SFCs), etc. for onward lending to MSMEs and (b) direct assistance in the niche areas with thrust on MSEs. • SIDBI has reoriented its focus on MSEs by adopting SIDBI Vision 2.0. It is a strategic initiative by SIDBI aimed at accelerating effort to serve MSME domain by transforming its current role to that of an All India Financial Institution that can create an integrated credit and development support ecosystem for Indian MSEs, thus promoting their inclusive growth. • As part of its promotional and developmental role for the MSME sector, SIDBI now proposes to engage with State Governments in a focused manner on various themes, with the objective of facilitating development of the MSME ecosystem at all India level. • SIDBI has started a major developmental initiative, viz., Swavalamban ‘Bechain Sapne Aab Udne ko Tayar Hain…’ It is a mission to encourage masses to select entrepreneurship as the preferred occupational choice through the right enablers. • Swavalamban starts at the bottom of pyramid which mainly comprises unorganized business / livelihood activities (micro enterprises) offering maximum growth and job creation prospects alike. Micro enterprises development would have a ripple effect on opportunities of localized jobs and employment generation. Bank is paving path for this mission through various initiatives. • In order to give boost to the zeal of entrepreneurship operating at bottom of pyramid including the artisans, rural skilled craftsman, women centric arts, traditional items, traditional foods items, etc. SIDBI propose to organize a “Swavalamban Bharat Bazaar” at India Gate Lawns during third week of April 2020. The participants in bazaar will be broadly divided into three categories viz., dying, emerging & innovative/ exotic start-ups.
