Common use of Aflatoxins Clause in Contracts

Aflatoxins. Aflatoxin is a substance produced by fungal contamination of feeds. Dairy cows consuming aflatoxin contaminated feeds can transfer some of this toxin into milk. Aflatoxin, when consumed by humans through contaminated milk from dairy cattle who consumed contaminated feed can have adverse health effects. DFMC farmers must fully comply with all regulations relating to aflatoxins within both the domestic Australian market and within individual export markets where it sells milk and milk products. In the event that a farm result exceeds the acceptable level for aflatoxin during routine testing of milk, the member shall be notified by the DFMC RMs or LDD FSOs, and assistance provided to investigate and correct the problem. Various feedstuffs such as copra meal, peanut hay etc. have been shown to contain dangerous aflatoxin levels on occasion, and must be managed on farm to reduce the possibility of contamination.
