Alternative Service. A leave of absence without pay for up to two (2) school years shall be granted to any tenured unit member who joins the Peace Corps, VISTA, National Teacher Corps, or serves as an exchange teacher or overseas teacher and is a full-time participant in any such program.
Alternative Service. Alternative service is a direct service activity performed outside of a Member’s regular service activity. Alternative service must be pre-approved and verified by the project site staff. Oversight is generally provided by another organization. Service hours and activities must comply with WSC Policy POL-122 – Managing Alternative Service.

Should CONTRACTOR, for any reason, except the occurrence or existence of any of the events or conditions set forth in Section 14.06, refuse or be unable for a period of more than forty-eight (48) hours, to Collect a material portion or all of the Solid Waste which it is obligated under this Agreement to Collect, and as a result, Solid Waste should accumulate in CITY to such an extent, in such a manner, or for such a time that the City Manager, in the reasonable exercise of the City Manager's discretion, should find that such accumulation endangers or menaces the public health, safety or welfare, then CITY will have the right to contract with another Solid Waste enterprise to Collect any or all Solid Waste which CONTRACTOR is obligated to Collect pursuant to this AGREEMENT. CITY must provide twenty-four (24) hours prior written notice to CONTRACTOR during the period of such emergency, before contracting with another Solid Waste enterprise to Collect any or all Solid Waste which CONTRACTOR would otherwise collect pursuant to this Agreement for the duration of period during which CONTRACTOR is unable to provide such services. In such event, CONTRACTOR must undertake commercially reasonable efforts to identify sources from which such substitute Solid Waste services are immediately available, and must reimburse CITY for all of its expenses for such substitute services during the period in which CONTRACTOR is unable to provide Collection services required by this Agreement.

Should Contractor, for any reason, except the occurrence or existence 2155 of any of the events or conditions set forth in Section 19.06 [Uncontrollable Circumstances], refuse or be 2156 unable for a period of more than forty-eight (48) hours, to Collect a material portion or all of the Garbage, 2157 Organic Waste and C&D which it is obligated under this Agreement to Collect, and as a result, Garbage, 2158 Organic Waste and C&D should accumulate in City to such an extent, in such a manner, or for such a time 2159 that the City Manager, in the reasonable exercise of the City Manager's discretion, should find that such 2160 accumulation endangers or menaces the public health, safety or welfare, then City will have the right to enter 2161 into an agreement with another Solid Waste Collection enterprise to Collect any or all Garbage, Organic 2162 Waste and C&D which Contractor is obligated to Collect pursuant to this Agreement. City must provide 2163 twenty-four (24) hours’ prior written notice to Contractor during the period of such event, before contracting 2164 with another Solid Waste Collection enterprise to Collect any or all Garbage, Organic Waste and C&D that 2165 Contractor would otherwise collect pursuant to this Agreement for the duration of period during which 2166 Contractor is unable to provide such services. WSC must pre-approve any exceptions to this requirement. Members may perform alternative service in addition to their regular service, or they may need to increase service hours to ensure they successfully reach their minimum service-hours requirement. Sponsoring Organizations may require Members to perform alternative service while the service site is closed for holidays, vacations, or other closures. Alternative service must meet the following criteria: the supervisor must pre-approve the service activity; the service must align with the WSC project goals and meet a specific need as identified by the project site; the service must be performed under the supervision of a non-profit organization or a local, state, tribal or federal agency; the service must be verifiable. Member will document alternative service activities using the Alternative Service form which has been preapproved by WSC and Service Site Staff: use preapproved form to record and verify alternative service hours; ensure form is signed by a representative of the non-profit or government agency where the alternative service was performed; submit the completed form to Sponsoring Organization; add alternative service hours to the WSC timesheet as regular service hours.
