APPLICATION REQUIREMENTS AND PROCEDURES. Applications for sabbatical leave must be filed on the prescribed forms with the Superintendent. The due date of such applications shall be February 15 for leaves beginning with the ensuing school year and October 15 for leaves beginning at midyear. The Superintendent shall give notice to the applicant whether the request is granted or rejected within sixty (60) days after the due date for filing the application.

Approval of a sabbatical leave by the Board of Education will be contingent upon securing an employee qualified to assume the applicant's duties and/or the redistribution of the responsibilities among other staff members. If the above cannot be accomplished, it shall be resolved by a conference between the employee and the Superintendent. 2. A sabbatical leave once granted may not be terminated before the date of expiration, except as otherwise provided herein or as otherwise agreed upon by the Superintendent and the Board of Education. 3. The Board of Education reserves the right to reject any or all requests for sabbatical leaves of absence, based on policies establishing such leaves.
APPLICATION REQUIREMENTS AND PROCEDURES. 1. Requests for SABBATICAL LEAVE shall be made before November 1st of the school year previous to the school year for which the leave is requested. 2. Formal written application shall be submitted to the Superintendent of Schools describing, in full, the details as outlined in this policy. The Superintendent of Schools will make such recommendations as determined after study of the application to the Personnel Committee of the Board. The Committee shall then present the application before the entire Board for action. 3. Interruption of the SABBATICAL LEAVE program by serious accident or illness shall not affect the sabbatical leave contract providing satisfactory evidence is presented to the Superintendent of Schools within twenty (20) days of such accident or illness.

The application shall contain: 1. a statement of the purpose of the leave, both with regard to the teacher and the Westport schools. 2. an outline and discussion of the program. 3. evidence of professional sponsorship as indicated in Section 3 following. 4. written comments on the purpose of the leave by the administrator with whom the matter appropriately rests. 5. a statement regarding any compensation the teacher expects to earn or be awarded during the period of the leave and of the conditions to be fulfilled by the candidate in this condition.
APPLICATION REQUIREMENTS AND PROCEDURES. 14.4.1 Application for sabbatical leave shall be filed with the Superintendent of Schools on or before November 15 of the school year prior to the requested leave, and shall set forth the benefits which such leave will have to both the school system and the employee. 14.4.2 After review of a member's application for sabbatical leave, the Superintendent will direct the request with a recommendation to the Board. The Board will notify the member of acceptance or rejection of the request by April 1 of the school year in which the application was submitted. 14.4.3 The following factors shall govern in reviewing and approving sabbatical leave applications: (a) In recommending approval of an application, the Superintendent shall consider the following factors: 1. Date of filing application. 2. Purpose of the leave. 3. Seniority of service in the school system. 4. Professional growth of the staff member. 5. Potential benefit to the school system. 6. The expense to the school system. (b) Granting of approval of a sabbatical leave by the Board shall be contingent upon securing an employee qualified to assume the applicant's duties. (c) After commencement of a sabbatical leave, it shall not be terminated before the date of expiration, except as otherwise provided herein or as otherwise agreed upon by the Superintendent and the Board.
