Common use of Appointment/Election of Shop Stewards Clause in Contracts

Appointment/Election of Shop Stewards. Where the Company tenders for a significant Construction or Engineering Construction Project, the Company shall at the earliest possible time, undertake discussions with the relevant officer of the ETU in regard to how industrial relations will be conducted on the project (as per sub-clause 3.1). Such discussions shall include minimising industrial relations problems, improving safety and representation of employees on the site / project. The parties recognise that employees have the right and expectation of representation from genuine Shop Stewards. It is noted that the Union has the right to appoint/elect Shop Stewards in accordance with its rules. It is a serious breach of this Agreement where it is found by the Union that the Company, any of its representative or their client, has been involved in the election or the appointment of a Shop Xxxxxxx. Where the ETU does not appoint a Shop Xxxxxxx on site an election may be conducted by an authorised officer of the ETU.
