The Company shall grant leave of absence to employees, with normal pay and without loss of seniority to attend functions of the Union, providing: that the requested leave does not exceed ten days; that not more than six (6) employees shall request such leave at any one time; that the leave is requested, in writing, at least one week in advance of the date it is to commence; that the approval of the Director of Transit or his Designate has been granted in writing; that the total leave of absence granted in accordance with this Section shall not exceed a maximum of forty (40) days leave per contract year. The Company will pay of its normal contribution for health and life benefits during approved maternity leave. ARTICLE LEAVE OF ABSENCE. The Company Employees may grant request a leave of absence to employees which shall be presented in writing. The employee will provide five (5) working days notice where possible. Leaves of absence without pay and without loss for personal reasons (i.e. other than bona fide sickness or accident) may be granted at the Company’s discretion.
