Block board. Block board shall be from a manufacturing source approved by the Architect and shall comply in all respects with B.S. 3444. The grade of the veneer shall be as described in the measured items.

Block board. Block Boards have a solid core made up of uniform strips of wood each not exceeding 25 mm in widthlaid separately, or spot glued, or otherwise joined to form a slab which is glued between two or more outerveneers. In any one block board, the core strips shall be of one species of timber only. Face veneers may bedecorative or commercial on both faces or decorative on one face and commercial on the other. Block boardsshall be Grade 1 (Exterior Grade) as per IS: 1659. Both surfaces of the boards shall be sanded to a smoothfinish.The adhesives used for bonding shall be BWP type synthetic resin conforming to IS: 848 for Grade Iblock boards. Block boards are available in thickness ranging from 12 to 50 mm. Tolerance in thickness shall be +5%for boards upto and including 25 mm thick, and +2.5% for boards above 25 mm thickness. Each board shall beof uniform thickness.
Block board. For block board, battens of good quality well seasoned and treated wood having straight grain and uniform width of about 2.5cm properly glued and machine pressed together. With grams of each piece reversed from that of adjoining one, shall be used. For particle board or medium density fibre board (MDF), the core shall be of solid particle board or MDF, as the case may be of approved make with the edges lipped internally with first class teak wood/other approved hardwood battens of 4cm(1 ½”) minimum depth, glued and machine pressed alongwith the core. The particle or block board shall have veneer –the first one called cross band with its grain at right angle to that of core and the next one with the grains parallel to these of the core, the face veneer being 1mm of first class teak, well matched. For cheaper variety, one or both faces can have commercial hardwood veneer. Thermoset synthetic resin of phenol for maldchyde, type (to I.S 303) shall be used for all doors except otherwise mentioned. Wherever specified, in addition to veneers, the top surface may be provided with synthetic lamination. When this is called a prelaminated slump, the type and colour of the lamination being of approved type.
