Bonds in Lieu of Retentions. 3.2.1 If required by the Subcontract Specific Conditions, the Subcontractor must provide the Contractor with a bond (or bonds) in lieu of retentions. These bonds must be for the amounts stated in the Subcontract Specific Conditions and are in addition to any performance bond required by 3.1.1. Any bond in lieu of retentions must be in a form, and issued by a surety, approved by the Contractor. Where these bonds have been accepted by the Contractor, retentions will not be held. These Bonds will be returned to the Subcontractor no later than the due dates for release of the retentions that they are given in lieu of.
