The draft National Rehabilitation Policy (2006) recognizes that displacement and other project impacts make it difficult for affected families to continue their livelihood. The policy proposes that a project provide each affected family ‘on replacement cost basis’ agricultural land or cultivable wasteland, if government land is available for distribution. This benefit would also be available to affected families who have, as a consequence of land acquisition, been reduced to the status of marginal farmers.
