CLASS ADVANCEMENT. To qualify for class advancement on the regular academic employee salary schedule, academic personnel will notify Human Resources that they have received an advance degree by July 15th and submit evidence of the advanced degree from an accredited college or university or evidence of a sufficient number of units to meet requirements for class advancement on the salary schedule. As proof of completion, official transcripts must be submitted prior to August 31st of the year for which the change in salary placement is requested. Class advancements are processed only during the month of August of each year, and modify the employee’s salary for the full college year. 8.4.1 For class advancement purposes, an academic employee may submit without prior approval: 1. Upper division and graduate units, offered by accredited colleges and universities, relevant to the instructor’s teaching field. 2. Education courses required for a credential or degree appropriate to the instructor’s field in community college teaching. 8.4.2 Other courses must be individually approved by the Vice Chancellor of Human Resources. Prior approval of courses in which an academic employee plans to enroll should be obtained to ensure that units will be applicable for advancement on the salary schedule. Such requests for prior approval should be submitted to the employee’s immediate supervisor, who will attach his/her recommendation and forward them through the Vice President to the Vice Chancellor of Human Resources. The Vice Chancellor of Human Resources will then approve or disapprove, in full or in part, and so inform the instructor, the Vice President, and the immediate supervisor.

Any excess units earned while a Unit Member is attempting to qualify to advance to a specific class may be used to satisfy the requirements necessary for any further advancement. 20.2.3 All units are equated as semester units; quarter units will be converted to semester units on a ratio of one (1) quarter unit equaling two-thirds (2/3) semester unit. 20.2.4 Graduate and upper division units related to the Unit Member’s assignment qualify for advancement from one class to another.

In the event the Immediate Management Supervisor disapproves, an appeal may be taken to the Professional Growth and Development Committee for a final decision. After completion of the activity, verification must be submitted to the Vice Chancellor of Human Resources. 20.2.6.2 Activity participated in must be directly related to the area in which a Unit Member is assigned or is to be assigned on request of the Immediate Management Supervisor. 20.2.6.3 Equivalent units must be earned in activities that will enable Unit Members to grow in knowledge and experience as it relates to...

CLASS ADVANCEMENT. 4.3.1 As a condition of class advancement, the authorized District Form 11 must be filed prior to April 15th by the unit member intending to advance. Should April 15th fall on a non-work day, the deadline will be the next working day. Failure to meet these deadlines will result in no class advancement for that year. All unit members will be informed between March 15th and April 1st of the April 15th deadline. 4.3.2 A unit full time member who continues his/her professional growth through enrollment in graduate courses related to his/her professional responsibilities may be granted class advancement on the salary schedule in fifteen (15) semester unit blocks. The units must be taken after the Bachelor's Degree has been awarded. 4.3.3 The Professional Standards Committee, as overseen by the District and the Association, will establish procedures to be followed for the review and advance approval of those scholastic units to be undertaken by unit members for class advancement, improved learning on the part of his/her students and the professional growth of the unit member. 4.3.4 Unit members on leave of absence for study or on a part time assignment who are in approved credential or advanced degree programs may apply all units achieved in such a program. The unit member requesting a salary advancement must submit all relevant degrees and transcripts for examination and approval by the Department of Human Resources. All units and degrees shall only be approved by the District when they have been achieved at an accredited college or university.
