The Community Schools clause establishes the framework for the operation and support of schools that serve as community hubs, integrating academic, health, and social services for students and families. Typically, this clause outlines the responsibilities of the school district, community partners, and local government in providing resources, coordinating services, and engaging families. By formalizing these collaborative efforts, the clause ensures that students have access to comprehensive support, thereby addressing barriers to learning and promoting educational equity.
Community Schools. ▇▇▇▇ agrees to promptly convene a study committee, to include representatives of SEIU Local 500, MCAAP/MCBOA and MCEA, to discuss the work of members of the various bargaining units resulting from the extended hours that community schools are open and the additional services provided that are not provided in other locations. The committee should determine the best options for meeting community needs while being aware of pressures on bargaining unit members and exploring how best this can be accommodated which may include additional resources to take on the additional work load being shouldered by identified staff.

Community Schools a. Pre-K or community schools is a distinct staffing category. b. Contract status will be consistent with all teaching positions. c. In recognition of the unique challenges associated with the SUSD early childhood program, teachers assigned to work within community schools realize that meeting the educational needs of their students requires adherence to the Arizona Department of Health Services regulations. d. The professional expectation that teachers be available to parents 15 minutes before (and after) school hours is reasonable and teachers should accommodate the expectations of parents/guardians seeking conferences during this time. Teachers working for Community Schools shall have planning time before or after school in order to be in compliance with Department of Health Services Guidelines for supervision and licensure. e. At Early Childhood campuses, Pre-K teachers will have a duty free lunch on early release days, appropriate for the schedule and in compliance with DHS.
Community Schools. In the Northern Areas: (a) provision of additional financial support through grants for up to 800 community schools; and (b) provision of additional technical and institutional support, inter alia, for: (i) the training of DOE staff in social organization and mobilization; (ii) the piloting of various modalities of providing management and financial support to community schools; and (iii) the training of DOE staff involved in the design and supervision of the community schools program.

Community Schools. Contractor’s indemnification includes, but is not limited to, any act of negligence of the Contractor and/or also includes, but is not limited to, claims, demands, liability and causes of action involving injury or damages of whatsoever kind or nature to any person or persons or the property of any person, persons, corporations, school districts or any other entity. Contractor’s agreement to indemnify the Dexter Community Schools covers all costs, expenses, liabilities and fees, including attorney fees, incurred by Dexter Community Schools in the event an action, litigation or proceeding in initiated against the Dexter Community Schools. Contractor shall upon written notice from the Dexter Community Schools, defend such litigation, action or proceeding. In certain instances, determined by the Dexter Community Schools, the Dexter Community Schools shall retain the right to request that the Contractor provide proof of public liability insurance in such sums as shall be deemed appropriate by the Dexter Community Schools. The Contractor shall not be responsible for any action or inaction of Dexter Community Schools or its officers, agents, or employees, nor for insurance costs of legal fees related thereto.

The subcommittee will be required to meet quarterly during the 2022-23 and 2023-24 school years and report back to the labor-management team by March 1, 2024, on the interest levels, needed resources, and potential impacts of this educational model.
