Concurrent Medications and Non-Drug Therapies. 3.3.3.1. Permitted COPD medications • Treatment for smoking cessation is permitted. • Subjects may take any COPD medication with the exception of those listed in Section 3.3.3.2. (Non-Permitted COPD Medications). • VENTOLIN (salbutamol) will be provided for use as relief medication throughout the study. • Self-medicated, intermittent oxygen therapy and oxygen prescribed for less than 12 hours per day is permitted on entry to the study. Subjects receiving long term oxygen therapy (LTOT) at the start of the study should not be entered (LTOT is defined as oxygen therapy prescribed for 12 hours or more per day). If subjects deteriorate during the study to the extent that they require LTOT, this is permitted and must be recorded in the CRF. • Theophyllines (long and short-acting) • Short-acting anticholinergic agents • Short-acting β2-agonists • Subjects may take short courses of systemic corticosteroids (e.g., 10 days), where necessary, for the treatment of an exacerbation. Courses of oral corticosteroids separated by a period of less than 7 days will be considered as continuous use).
