Common use of CREW SAFETY EQUIPMENT, BARRICADES, CONES, SIGNS Clause in Contracts

CREW SAFETY EQUIPMENT, BARRICADES, CONES, SIGNS. All Contractor personnel in the field must be equipped with reflectorized or high visibility orange hard hats and vests. Safety equipment must meet all OSHA requirements and standards for highway construction workers as well as standards contained in the most recent version of the MUTCD. The Contractor shall furnish, install, maintain, and remove, when necessary, approved barricades, cones, signs, and all other temporary traffic control devices for the proper control of traffic, and for the safety of workers, pedestrian and vehicles in accordance with the most recent version of the MUTCD. All devices used shall be clean, sturdy and be properly maintained throughout their use pursuant to this Contract. The Contractor shall be responsible for providing any other suitable devices or special measures, which the Engineer may request when necessary, for the proper control of traffic, and for the safety of workers, pedestrians and vehicles. Contractor shall provide advance warning sign(s) and flaggers as outlined in drawing TTC-1 When performing work during dark hours, the Contractor shall use reflectorized barricades, reflectorized signs, illuminated devices, and at least three (3) suitable warning lights facing the approaching traffic to warn vehicles of the impending road work, to provide temporary traffic control and to protect workers, pedestrians, bicyclists and vehicles. All such temporary traffic control devices shall conform to the most recent version of the MUTCD and shall have the approval of the Engineer. All barricades, danger signals, warning signs, indicators and/or devices not designed or suitable for use in the dark shall be removed from the roadway each evening by a time not later than one half (1/2) hour after sunset, as reported daily in newsprint referring to New York City on the particular day in question, nor shall any devices as noted above shall be placed in the roadway earlier than one half (1/2) hour before sunrise. Temporary traffic control devices restricting or modifying traffic (vehicular, cycling and pedestrian) at any location will be tolerated only so long as necessary for the proper setting of the marking compound being used.

Temporary traffic control devices restricting or modifying traffic (vehicular, cycling and pedestrian) at any location will be tolerated only so long as necessary for the proper setting of the marking compound being usedinstalled. When performing work in parking lanes where parked vehicles will conflict with completing the work, the Contractor shall obtain temporary “No Parking” signs from NYCDOT and post such signs no later than 24 hours prior to commencement of work at the impacted location.
