Criteria for Submission. At the sole discretion of the Superintendent, a teacher may be granted an unpaid leave of up to one (1) year to pursue an educational program or a professional development activity (including reassignments to a new educator or administrative position within the District) which will benefit the district, provided the following criteria have been met: 1) The teacher has taught a minimum of four (4) years in the District and/or former member district. 2) The teacher submits a request for said leave on or before February 1 of the school year preceding the leave. The request shall minimally include the nature of the educational program or professional development activity being sought and a description of how the program/activity will benefit the District. The Superintendent reserves the right to extend this deadline at his/her sole discretion for professional leave opportunities that did not avail themselves until after the February 1 deadline. 3) The leave of absence has been recommended for approval by the school principal.
