Definition and Purpose. The probationary period provides the employee the opportunity to become acquainted with the job and learn any necessary skills. Supervisory personnel will be responsible for checking to see that the new employee is learning the duties of the job and is capable of performing them. If at any time during this period it is determined by supervisory personnel that the employee is not suited for the position for reasons including, but not limited, to poor work performance and violation of work rules, the employee may be terminated without the same appellate rights as regular employees.
