Dismissal or Suspension for Cause. ‌ An employee may be dismissed or suspended for cause. All dismissals and suspensions shall be subject to grievance and arbitration procedures, and the burden of proof shall be on the University. In the case of a probationary employee, just cause shall include failure to display suitability for the position. In the event of a dismissal or suspension, the University shall give a letter outlining the reasons for her/his dismissal or suspension to the employee concerned. The letter shall be given to the employee immediately upon dismissal or suspension, except in cases of summary dismissal or summary suspension, in which case the letter shall be sent to the employee as soon as reasonably possible. A copy of the letter shall be sent to the Union.
