Common use of Ditch Inlets and Outlets Clause in Contracts

Ditch Inlets and Outlets. For culverts 18 inches in diameter and larger, the embankment around the culvert inlet and outlet shall be protected from erosion as specified in the ODOT Hydraulics Manual Chapter 15. Trash racks/debris barriers are required on culverts that are over 18 inches in diameter. In order to maintain the stability of roadway embankments, concrete headwalls, wing walls, or tapered inlets and outlets may be required if right-of-way and/or easement constraints prohibit the culvert from extending to the toe of the embankment slope. Normally, concrete inlet structures/headwalls installed in or near roadway embankments must be flush with and conform to the slope of the embankment.
