The barred voice calls are routed to voice mail or given other secondary call treatment. The user can activate and deactivate DND by using feature codes. The MSC typically obtains authorization by sending an IS-41 message to the HLR and sends the appropriate tone (confirmation or deny) to the subscriber and releases the call.
