DRY PACKING. Dry packing mortar shall consist of one part of cement to 2 parts of sand by volume and just enough water so that the mortar as used, will stick together on being molded into a ball by a slight pressure on the hands and will not exclude water when pressed but will leave the hands damp. The mortar shall be placed in layers of not more that 25mm thickness. After being compacted, each layer shall be roughed by being scratched to provide an effective bond with the succeeding layers. The last or finishing layer shall be smooth to form a surface continuous with the surrounding concrete. All patches shall be bonded thoroughly to the surface of the chipped opening and shall be sound and free from shrinkage cracks.
