Eligibility for Priority of Assignment. 5.2.3.1 Adjunct faculty who have completed eight (8) semesters of service within an eight (8) year period within a specific discipline at a particular college or within a specific discipline in continuing education will become eligible to participate in the priority of assignment process in that discipline. Those adjunct faculty who are either current contract or retired contract District employees are not eligible to participate in the priority of assignment program. 5.2.3.2 During the adjunct faculty member’s sixth (or later) semester of service within an eight year period, the adjunct faculty member shall request, in writing, to the appropriate manager and department/program chair her/his desire to initiate the Priority of Assignment process. Upon ratification of this Agreement, all continuing education adjunct faculty who have accumulated ten (10) semesters (fall/spring semesters only) of District service (without a break in service of eighteen (18) months or more) shall automatically be given priority of assignment in the discipline(s) for which he/she is qualified. The seniority date of this initial cohort of continuing education adjunct faculty for priority of assignment purposes shall be each faculty member’s date of hire within continuing education (provided he/she has not had a break in service of eighteen (18) months or more). If such a break in service did occur, the date of hire following the break in service shall be considered the hire date for POA seniority purposes. Subsequent to this ratification date, all other continuing education faculty must follow the request procedure delineated in 5.2.3.2 above. 5.2.3.3 Priority of assignment rights will not be granted to adjunct faculty who have not initiated the above request with their appropriate manager and department/program chair.

Those adjunct faculty who are either current contract or retired contract District employees are not eligible to participate in the priority of assignment programprocess. 5.2.3.2 During Two (2) semesters prior to becoming eligible to participate in the adjunct faculty member’s sixth (or later) semester priority of service within an eight year periodassignment process for a particular discipline, the adjunct faculty member shall request, in writing, to meet with the appropriate manager and department/program chair herand mutually determine which assignments within the discipline in which he/his desire she holds priority of assignment rights. At a minimum, this list of assignments will include those assignments the adjunct faculty member holds at the time of the request. In the case where mutual agreement cannot be reached on additional assignments, the appropriate manager shall make the final determination. The final determination of the list of assignments must be made prior to initiate the Priority end of Assignment processthe semester during which the adjunct faculty member requests the above meeting. The list of assignments may subsequently be modified upon mutual agreement of the adjunct faculty member, appropriate manager, and department chair. Upon ratification of this Agreement, all continuing education adjunct faculty who have accumulated ten one thousand five hundred (101,500) semesters (fall/spring semesters only) or more hours of District service (without a break in service of eighteen (18) months or more) shall automatically be given priority of assignment in the discipline(s) for which he/she is qualified. The seniority date of this initial cohort of continuing education adjunct faculty for priority of assignment purposes shall be each faculty member’s date of hire within continuing education (provided he/she has not had a break in service of eighteen (18) months or more). If such a break in service did occur, the date of hire following the break in service shall be considered the hire date for POA seniority purposes. Subsequent to this ratification date, all other continuing education faculty must follow the request procedure delineated in 5.2.3.2 above. 5.2.3.3 Priority of assignment rights will not be granted to adjunct faculty who have not initiated requested the above request meeting with their appropriate manager and departmentmanager. In cases where an adjunct faculty member requests the above meeting subsequent to the completion of five (5) semesters of service in the discipline, he/program chairshe shall become eligible to participate in the priority of assignment process effective two (2) semesters following the request. However, any accumulated FTEF or hours will apply only to the prior four (4) semesters.
