Emergency Use. 1. An employee shall be entitled to use up to three (3) days of his/her accumulated paid sick leave for any absence necessitated by serious injury, acute critical illness or death of any member of his/her immediate family, upon application approved by the Police Chief. Extension of time shall be permitted in exceptional circumstances upon application approved by the City Manager. 2. An employee shall be entitled to use one (1) day of his/her accumulated paid sick leave for absence necessitated by death of an aunt, uncle, or great-grandparent. 3. An employee shall be entitled to take up to two (2) days paid leave, without charge to sick leave, upon the death of any member of his/her immediate family, including son-in- law and daughter-in-law. One day may be used, as reasonably necessary, on occasion of childbirth.
