Faculty Service Areas. An FSA ("Faculty Service Area") is defined as "a service or instructional subject area or group of related services or instructional subject areas performed by faculty and established by a community college district." (Cal Ed Code § 87743. 1.) The function of FSA's is to provide a rational and workable framework within which retreat rights, seniority rights, and bumping rights can be exercised by faculty in the event of a layoff, reduction in force, or reduction in services. The FSA's for the District are established according to the Disciplines List contained in the latest "Minimum Qualifications for Faculty and Administrators in California Community Colleges," issued by the California Community Colleges Chancellor's Office (CCCCO). A copy of the latest CCCCO Disciplines List shall be maintained in the Human Resources office.
