Field Training Officer Assignment & Pay. X. Xx officer assigned as a field training officer, (FTO), shall receive working out of classification pay while performing field training operations during that period of time that he/she has a probationary officer assigned to ride with him/her on patrol. B. The selection of officers to serve as field training officers shall be made by the Chief of Police or the Chief’s designee. The training division supervisor will be responsible for assigning recruits(s) to the FTOs and overseeing the recruit’s overall field training. An officer assigned to be a field training officer should not consider the assignment permanent. Individuals serving as field training officers do so at the pleasure of the Chief of Police and may be relieved from being a field training officer at any time by the Chief of Police. C. An officer selected to serve as a FTO shall meet the following minimum requirements: 1. Complete the designated FTO training as established by the Chief of Police or his designee. 2. An officer shall only be assigned as a recruit’s primary FTO if it is known that they will be available to complete the final phase of field training.
