Gradation Requirements. Gradation requirements specified herein shall apply to the completed compacted base course. The aggregates shall have a maximum size of 50 mm (2 inch) and be graded continuously well within the limits specified in Table I. Sieves shall conform to ASTM E 11. TABLE I. GRADATION OF AGGREGATES Percentage by Weight Passing Square-Mesh Sieve: Sieve Designation Percent Passing 50 mm (2 inches) 100 37.5 mm (1 ½ inches) 70-100 12.5 mm (1/2 inch) 30-60 4.75 mm (No. 4) 10-35 2.36 mm (No. 8) 5-25 425 μm (No. 40) 4-18 75 μm (No. 200) 0-10 Liquid limit and plasticity index requirements stated herein shall apply to any aggregate component that is blended to meet the required gradation and also to the aggregate in the completed base course. The portion of the aggregate passing the 425 um (No. 40) sieve shall be either non-plastic or have a liquid limit not greater than 25 and a plasticity index not greater than 5.
