LEAVE FOR ELECTIVE OFFICE. When an employee is nominated as a candidate and wishes to contest a municipal, regional, provincial or federal election, the employee shall be given leave of absence, without pay and without seniority, during the election campaign. Should the employee be elected as a Member of Parliament or Member of the Legislative Assembly, the employee shall be granted a long term leave of absence without pay, employee benefits or seniority for a period of up to five (5) years or as mutually agreed by the parties. Employees elected or appointed to municipal or regional district offices or public boards shall be granted leave of absence, with pay, up to a maximum of twenty (20) days in any one school year. Such days off granted shall be deducted from their annual vacation entitlement or from accumulated banked time.
