HOLIDAY COMPENSATION FOR TIME WORKED. 143. Employees required by their respective appointing officers to work on any of the above specified or substitute holidays, excepting Fridays observed as holidays in lieu of holidays falling on Saturday, shall be paid extra compensation of one additional day's pay at time-and-one-half the usual rate in the amount of 12 hours pay for 8 hours worked or a proportionate amount for less than 8 hours worked, provided, however, that at the employee's request and with the approval of the appointing officer, an employee may be granted compensatory time off in lieu of paid overtime pursuant to the provisions herein. 144. Executive, administrative and professional employees designated in the Annual Salary Ordinance with the "Z" symbol shall not receive extra compensation for holiday work but may be granted time off equivalent to the time worked at the rate of-one-and-one-half times for work on the holiday.

Employees whose holidays are changed because of shift rotations shall be allowed another day off if a legal holiday falls on one of their days off. Employees regularly scheduled to work on a holiday which falls on a Saturday or Sunday shall observe the holiday on the day it occurs, or if required to work shall receive holiday compensation for work on that day. Holiday compensation shall not be paid for work on the Friday preceding a Saturday holiday nor on the Monday following a Sunday holiday.

FLOATING HOLIDAYS Eligible employees are granted three (3) floating holidays in each fiscal year to be taken on days selected by the employee subject to prior scheduling approval of the Appointing Officer. Employees (both full-time and part-time) must complete six (6) months’ continuous service to establish initial eligibility for the floating holidays. Employees hired on an as-needed, intermittent or seasonal basis shall not receive the additional floating holidays. Floating holidays may not be carried forward from one fiscal year to the next except with the approval of the Appointing Officer. No compensation of any kind shall be earned or granted for floating holidays not taken.
