Common use of Limits on Academic Subject Preparation Clause in Contracts

Limits on Academic Subject Preparation. In all middle and high schools every effort will be made to limit a teacher's academic subject preparation to a maximum of three. In the event an assignment exceeding this maximum is deemed necessary, such will be made only after consultation with the teacher. If such an assignment is not agreeable to the teacher, the staff member will be granted an extra preparation period. (Any teacher so affected may upon request be released from his/her contract or be granted a leave of absence, not to exceed one year.) What constitutes a different subject within a given academic discipline shall be defined by the department chairpersons in the discipline, district-wide, and the Superintendent or his/her designee.
