Teaching Load. 11-1 The parties recognize that the number of students, the number of preparations, and the amount of planning time are related to student performance.
11-2 CLASS SIZE 11-2-1 The parties recognize that class size is related to economics and that reduction of class size is faced with fiscal constraints. The parties further recognize that it is not feasible at this time to set general numerical limitations upon class size because of physical space available, special programs, special student needs, attendance area variances, differences in scheduling systems, busing, and because of other variable causes affecting class size. Nevertheless, the parties shall make reasonable effort to maintain class size at reasonable, workable, and educationally effective levels in all situations.
11-3 TEACHER LOAD 11-3-1 Teaching load shall be defined as the number of separate class preparations that a teacher has per school day as delineated in the course description guide.
Teaching Load. Every effort shall be made at the beginning of the school year or semester to provide for an equitable distribution of regular education students on any grade level or specialized area in the elementary schools and by subject and level in the secondary schools with respect to class size, discipline history, and ability levels. While reasonable efforts should be made to maintain distribution levels as much as possible throughout the year, it is understood that mobility factors and the timely accessibility of student information will impact distribution equity. The school principal, with input from classroom teachers, shall have the authority and the responsibility to provide for the foregoing provisions.
Teaching Load. (a) Teachers in departmentalized programs shall not generally be required to teach more than two subjects not to make more than two teaching preparations daily. A subject is herein intended to mean a distinct course of study within a broad classification. For example, Algebra, Trigonometry and Geometry in the field of Mathematics shall be deemed separate subjects. However, this shall in no way limit the institution of new teaching methods. Teachers in departmentalized programs who are assigned more than two subjects or more than two preparations daily shall be given two additional preparation periods per week and such teachers shall be given preference in relief of homeroom assignments. Teachers with four (4) or more preparations per week shall be relieved from all collateral assignment. This section shall not apply in experimental teaching situations, including team teaching, contemporary issues, and general lectures. In these expected areas, assignments inconsistent with the foregoing criteria will be discussed with the Federation.
(b) No teacher shall teach in violation of the certification regulations of the State.
(c) Departmentalized teachers shall be scheduled for no more than five (5) teaching periods per day.
(d) Teachers assigned to non-compensated extracurricular activities during the school hours shall have such assignment considered as a teaching period
Teaching Load. The weekly teaching load in the high schools shall not exceed twenty-five (25) assigned instructional periods and five (5) unassigned preparation periods, which the teacher will schedule for parent conferences when requested. The weekly teaching load in the 7-8 middle schools shall not exceed five-sixth (5/6) of the weekly instructional time with one-sixth (1/6) of said time being unassigned preparation time which the teacher will schedule for parent conferences when requested. The weekly teaching load in grades 1-6 will include a minimum of two- hundred fifteen (215) minutes of unassigned preparation periods which the teacher will schedule for parent conferences when requested. Any teacher may volunteer for an overload class to relieve student overcrowding in the classroom.
Teaching Load. 4.3.1 A full-time teaching load consists of approximately fifteen (15) lecture hour equivalents each semester. Each lecture hour taught is equated to one (1) lecture hour equivalent, LHE and after July 1, 2017, each laboratory or activity hour is equated to approximately .83 of a lecture hour equivalent. Appendix A identifies those courses for which additional workload credit is granted.
4.3.1.1 The SCEA, and the District agree to establish, with the Academic Senate, a committee to recommend which laboratory courses should be defined as “extensive preparation lab classes” and therefore receive an increased lab/lecture ratio or faculty stipend. The committee shall consist of one representative from each of the groups listed above. The committee shall be tasked with establishing guidelines to determine which lab classes are “extensive preparation labs”, proposed lab rate increases, and/or the value of faculty stipends (if appropriate). The committee shall submit its recommendations to the District and SCEA negotiating teams by Spring 2018. The work of this committee does not preclude collective bargaining between the parties regarding laboratory stipends to be paid after the 2016-17 fiscal year.
4.3.2 In the event that a Unit Member's load assignment for one (1) semester contains fewer than, or more than, the hours required for a full load, the underage or overage will be carried over to the next semester. The Unit Member's load may be adjusted in the next semester by increasing or decreasing the number of instructional hours. If the underage is or exceeds two (2) LHE, that underage must be cleared from the next available overload. If the variance exceeds two (2) hours or more, the adjustment shall be made in the next semester, unless there is mutual agreement between the Unit Member and the Xxxx to postpone the adjustment.
4.3.3 A Unit Member teaching on contract may be required to teach an evening class in order to complete his/her contract teaching load. Unit Members within a discipline may develop a rotating schedule for evening assignments subject to Xxxx approval. Prior to the Xxxx assigning an evening contract class to a Unit Member, the Unit Member will be provided the following options:
4.3.3.1 Select an evening contract assignment within the School for which the Xxxx and the Unit Member agree that the Unit Member is qualified to teach.
4.3.3.2 Replace a day part-time Unit Member in a scheduled class within the School that the Unit Member and the Xx...
Teaching Load. In addition to the Clinical Work Load, Clinical Pharmacy faculty members are expected to teach two (2) semester hours of credit each semester. For classes scheduled to commence during the standard workday, the clinical faculty member shall be compensated for those semester hours of credit taught in excess of two as overtime on the basis of 1/36th per credit hour. For teaching classes commencing after the standard workday (classes commencing at or after 4 p.m.) the clinical faculty member shall be compensated for each semester hour of credit taught as overtime on the basis of l/36th per semester hour of credit.
Teaching Load a. The normal annual full-time workload for instructional faculty will be either 45 CHEs, or 54 contact hours to be averaged over a three-quarter period (typically 15 CHEs or 18 weekly contact hours per quarter).
b. Evening assignments shall be voluntary, unless an evening class is required to maintain a full load.
c. Based on, but not limited to, individual course enrollments, considerations of student needs, facilities, budget, and state guidelines, the Vice President of Instruction, in conjunction with a faculty member, may cooperatively develop a schedule (of student load, class size, class averaging and all other matters relevant to classroom instruction) which may differ from the normal full-time workload. The AHE President will be notified.
d. Full-time faculty who accept an assignment exceeding the agreed upon annual workload will be paid for the overload assignment. A supplemental contract will be issued.
e. Any deviation from the workload defined above will be negotiated by the appropriate administrator, AHE President, and the faculty member, prior to assignment.
f. Any existing practices that vary from workload standards specified herein are obviated by this contract. Any variants considered subsequent to this Agreement must be reduced to writing and agreed to by the instructor and the appropriate administrator with the approval of the District chief academic officer. The AHE President will be notified.
Teaching Load. The daily teaching load in the senior high school shall not exceed seven (7) teaching periods and the middle school shall not exceed eight (8) teaching periods. Further, assignment to a supervised study period shall be considered a teaching period for the purpose of the ARTICLE.
Teaching Load. Non-Credit Instructors Contract instructional loads may be annualized. Overloads may be assigned another semester or quarter to offset underloads for any one semester on an hour- for-hour basis.
Teaching Load. 22.3.1 The normal full-time teaching load shall be mutually determined by the Administration, Department Chairperson and faculty member using fifteen (15) lecture equivalency hours plus or minus one (1) lecture equivalent hour (LEH).
22.3.2 Each course in the College curriculum will carry a load percentage carried to two (2) decimal places. The load percentage for each course is derived through the application of the following formula:
22.3.3 Where:
22.3.3.1 Course lecture and lab hours are established by the District.
22.3.3.2 The lecture equivalency factors of .65, .70, .75 are assigned to each course having laboratory hours, except that coaching lecture equivalency factors range from .50 to .60 as shown in Appendix F. In addition, the lecture equivalency factor for the non-credit instructional lecture/lab rate per hour will be .60. The minimum for unit members teaching in the Cosmetology, Computer Graphics and Design, and the Administration of Justice Programs will be 0.60.
22.3.4 New courses containing laboratory hours presented to the Curriculum Committee will have laboratory equivalency factor recommended by the Curriculum Committee and Administration and authorized by the Board of Trustees.
22.3.5 Determinations regarding combinations of courses for full-time faculty falling within the 14-16 LEH will be determined through consultation between faculty members of the programs involved, the Department Chair, and the Administration.
22.3.6 Part-time faculty members shall not exceed 67% of load in any term without prior approval of the Vice President of Academic Affairs. Per EDC §87482.5
