Approval of Courses. Reasonable latitude will be given teachers in the selection of courses. Courses should relate to the work of the teacher or be required for a degree. The Superintendent is authorized to refuse approval of credits for salary schedule advance beyond schedule "A" when the courses do not relate to improvement of educational program or the teacher's specific assignment unless otherwise specified by state law. After initial employment, to advance beyond schedule "A" courses and areas of study must receive advanced approval from the Superintendent. Such requests shall be made in writing.
Approval of Courses. A. Courses in a Graduate Degree Program
1. Any teacher entering a graduate degree program in his/her major area of preparation or present teaching assignment will submit to the Superintendent information regarding the subject area of his/her degree program and verification of acceptance into the program. Once the Superintendent has verified acceptance into said degree program, courses and/or workshops taken which are part of the degree program will automatically be approved for incremental credit.
B. Courses Not in a Graduate Program
1. Courses or workshops not in a graduate degree program but within the teacher's present teaching assignment or major area of preparation will receive approval for incremental credit.
2. Courses or workshops not in a graduate degree program but which are in a related field, as defined in 8.2, will be submitted to the Superintendent for a decision as per 8.1A and will generally be approved if the teacher can justify the relevance of such course(s) to his/her instructional program.
Approval of Courses. Credits, subject to approval of the Executive Director of Human Resources, must be applicable to some clearly defined objective, such as a planned program leading to an advanced degree or the enhancement of expertise in the job.
Approval of Courses. Course work must relate to applicants present position for purpose of:
1) Improving skills or knowledge required in their position,
2) Preparing Employees for significant technological changes occurring in their career field,
3) Preparing Employees for changes in duties due to the different use of a position or class,
4) Preparing Employees for assumption of new and different duties as a result of a recent promotional appointment, or,
5) General development of understanding to do their jobs better.
Approval of Courses. All courses of this nature must first be approved by the Director of Human Resources. The Director will develop criteria that will clearly indicate that the course is work-related and that the course will contribute to the Employer in some measurable way. Any employee seeking reimbursement for work-related courses must submit a copy of the transcript indicating that the employee has maintained at least a C or 2.0 average in the course, if it is an undergraduate course. All grades must be submitted to the Director and in addition to the grade sheet, actual proof of payment from the institution by the employee must be submitted within a reasonable time.
Approval of Courses. All courses, training series approved hereunder shall be job or degree related, as determined by the Human Resources Office in order to be applied to an increment award.

C. The Agency will not reimburse for tuition or course materials for externships or internships (or similar courses that involve experiential work). In addition, the agency will not cover any credits the employee gets for work done at the Agency.

Credit beyond the Master’s degree may be earned through graduate courses approved by the Superintendent of Schools.
Approval of Courses. The Parties acknowledge and agree that the stipend rates listed above will only be paid upon administration’s approval of the course for the year. There is no guarantee that courses will be continued from year to year, and instructors will be notified of the discontinuation of their course by the last student attendance day of the school year in which the course was provided.
