Lipase Elevations and Pancreatitis Sample Clauses

Lipase Elevations and Pancreatitis. The diagnosis of pancreatitis will be reported as a clinical finding (i.e., symptomatic pancreatitis). The enzyme abnormality that will be used for helping to make the diagnosis of pancreatitis is the lipase level. For symptomatic (gastrointestinal symptoms, particularly abdominal pain) elevations in lipase of the following grades: Grade <1 Search for other causes of symptoms. If none are found and symptoms persist, repeat lipase within 2 weeks. Grade ≥1 Follow participants and repeat lipase as soon as possible (within 1 week is optimal). Grade ≤2 If repeat lipase is Grade ≤2 and symptoms persist, then exclude other possible diagnoses (e.g., renal insufficiency causing false elevations in lipase). If no other diagnosis is found, then diagnose as clinical pancreatitis, and hold all study treatment. Grade ≥3 If repeat lipase is Grade ≥3, hold all study treatment and follow at least weekly until serum lipase returns to Grade ≤2. Upon resolution to Grade ≤2, a new antiretroviral regimen may be initiated in consultation with the A5208/OCTANE CMC. ddI should be permanently discontinued after occurrence of a Grade ≥3 lipase in a participant taking ddI. Diagnose as clinical pancreatitis. The severity of clinical pancreatitis will be recorded as the highest severity level of any of the associated clinical signs and symptoms. For asymptomatic elevations in lipase (elevations without abdominal pain or nausea): Grade <1: Search for other causes of elevated lipase. If none are found and elevated lipase persists, repeat lipase within 2 weeks. Grade ≥1: Follow participants and repeat lipase as soon as possible (within 1 week is optimal). Grade 2 If repeat lipase is Grade 2, then exclude other possible diagnoses (e.g., renal insufficiency causing false elevations in lipase). If no other diagnosis is found, and no symptoms occur, then follow lipase every 2 weeks until Grade <1. No other action need be taken. If a participant becomes symptomatic, then the directions regarding symptomatic elevations in lipase above should be followed. Upon reinitiation, lipase determinations should be performed monthly. Any elevation of lipase...
