Motor Carrier Inspectors' Work Schedules. Motor Carrier Inspectors shall be scheduled to work forty (40) hours each week. They shall be guaranteed 4.33 hours of overtime each week. Motor Carrier Inspectors will schedule their hours of work per day based on operational needs and activity levels by mutual agreement with their immediate supervisor. The normal workday shall include all official duties, including business phone calls and business visits at home, report writing, actual and necessary travel time from their official headquarters which is their residence, etc. Any need to work beyond the employee's work schedule of 44.3 hours a week must be approved by the employee's supervisor prior to the employee performing the work. Supervisors and Managers have the right to change the work schedule/work assignment of any Motor Carrier Inspector when in their opinion it is necessary to do so to ensure adequate coverage and operational needs. The right to alter work schedules/work assignments includes, but is not limited to, the right to set specific hours or work assignments within a workday or workweek and the right to regulate or limit the hours worked outside the normal workday. When circumstances permit, the Department shall provide at least forty-eight (48) hours advance notification to affected employees of any individual temporary schedule change. Fourteen (14) calendar days' notice need not be given for the above types of individual schedule changes, but, in the event of a permanent individual schedule change, fourteen (14) calendar days' notice shall be given, as required by Article 33, Hours and Work Schedules, of the current contract. Management retains the right to relieve employees from duty because of excessive hours worked.
