Ongoing Program and Staff Development. Commerce highly encourages grantees/subgrantees to participate in ongoing program and staff development opportunities to improve person-centered, culturally competent practices designed to improve the experiences of those facing the greatest impacts of housing instability and homelessness. The following trainings/opportunities are recommended: 🗸 Crisis intervention 🗸 Racial Equity 🗸 Cultural competency 🗸 LGBTQ+ competency 🗸 Introduction to person-centered care 🗸 Trauma Informed Care 🗸 Mental health First Aid 🗸 Training on the SAMHSA Model of Permanent supportive housing 🗸 Motivational Interviewing 🗸 Supporting survivors of intimate partner violence and child abuse 🗸 Supporting special needs populations with co-occurring behavioral health conditions (including IDD, cognitive impairments, and TBIs) 🗸 Fair Housing 🗸 Housing First 🗸 Progressive Engagement and Problem-Solving (Diversion) 🗸 Professional boundaries 🗸 Trainings on handling secondary or vicarious trauma and professional burnout 🗸 Program evaluation and fidelity training In addition, lead/subgrantee staff are highly encouraged to attend the annual Washington State Conference on Ending Homelessness and other professional conferences on behavioral health and housing.
