Physical or Mental Disability. 1. The Board shall attempt to provide an alternate work assignment, if available, to an employee who has become medically unable to satisfactorily perform his/her regular duties. The alternate work may constitute a promotion, demotion, or lateral transfer to a related classification, but it shall be assigned only with the concurrent approval of the Organization and the employee. 2. The Board may separate from employment an employee who has a permanent or chronic physical or mental illness or defect which seriously interferes with the proper performance of duties.
