However, in case of emergency, for which the burden of proof lies with the union or employee, 24 hours’ verbal notice shall be given to the employer, stating the employee’s departure date and the reason for and the probable duration of the intended absence, all of which shall be confirmed in writing within 48 hours of the verbal notice.
