Common use of Public Service Leaves of Absence Clause in Contracts

Public Service Leaves of Absence. The Board shall grant tenured teachers an unpaid public service leave of absence for a period of up to one (1) year. Such leaves of absence may be granted to campaign for or serve in a full-time public office; to participate in an exchange teaching program in other states, territories or countries; to work full-time in a foreign or military teaching program, the Peace Corps or other national service program; or to serve as a full-time intern, consultant or research assistant in the State Department of Education. No more than three (3) such leaves of absence will be approved in any one school year.
