Paid Leaves of Absence. Paid leaves of absences granted under this Article shall not exceed the employee's normal work schedule.
Paid Leaves of Absence. In addition to all other types of leave, teachers shall be entitled to the following leaves of absence with full pay and benefits:

Paid Leaves of Absence. The Association and Board recognize the importance of professional staff members being in the classroom regularly and therefore all absences will be considered prior to approval of other school-related absence requests. The administration may restrict school-related absences if a high use of Personal Business Days or other paid leave days have already been approved and/or have occurred.
Section 1: Twelve (12) days sick leave per year with full pay shall be granted in case of necessary absence due to:
a. Personal illness of the teacher.
b. Illness of a spouse, child, mother, father, mother-in-law, father-in-law, stepchild, stepmother, stepfather, and guardian/legal dependent.
c. Funeral leave--five (5) days for family per occurrence and two (2) days for non-family members per year.
d. Personal business—four (4) days, with five (5) working days notice.
i. A maximum of 2 consecutive days per request
ii. Personal Business Days will not normally be granted on days immediately before or after school breaks, vacations or holidays. It is understood that requests for leave on days preceding or following recess times and the beginning and closing of school shall be denied, except in case of verified emergency, or extenuating circumstances as determined by the Superintendent.
iii. When the total number of requests for a specific day exceeds five (5), the District can ask teachers to reschedule their leave. It is understood that some days cannot be rescheduled (one-time-only events). In such instances, the District will seek other means to fill anticipated subbing needs, including rescinding approval for conferences and in-district curriculum meetings.
e. In cases where extenuating circumstances exist in the aforementioned sections of this article, the teacher may appeal to the Superintendent whose decision shall be final.
Section 2: Part-time teachers shall accrue sick leave on a pro-rated basis and shall be charged the use of sick leave on a pro-rated basis. For example: a teacher teaching one-half time will be credited with six (6) full days of sick leave for a year. If this one-half time teacher were to be absent twelve one-half days in a year, the teacher would be charged for six (6) full sick days.

Paid Leaves of Absence. A. All the full time and regular part-time employees with seniority shall earn sick leave at the rate of one (1) day per full calendar month of paid work. The unused sick leave days can be accumulated to 115 days as of October 1, 2004 for the duration of continuous employment, provided that employees will not be paid for a day of sick leave before they have earned it. Employees with more than 115 accumulated sick days as of October 1, 2004, shall not have those days reduced other than through the use of sick days but shall not be allowed to accumulate days so long as the employee has more than 115 days.
B. Leave of absence with pay chargeable against the employee's accumulative sick leave will be granted for the following:
1. Personal illness of the employee.
2. Illness or emergency in the immediate family of the employees (limited to spouse, parent, child or, upon written request of the employee and with approval of the Superintendent in his discretion, someone living in the employee’s household) up to five (5) days in a fiscal year. Upon written request of an employee to the Superintendent with an explanation regarding why the employee believes use of additional paid sick leave time is needed, the Superintendent in his discretion may approve up to an additional three (3) of the employee’s paid sick leave days for use by the employee. Any such approval by the Superintendent will not constitute a precedent or past practice for any purpose. Employees shall provide a medical statement confirming that the employee is medically needed.
3. Medical or dental appointments which cannot be taken care of outside of the employee's working hours.
Paid Leaves of Absence. A. Paid leave time shall be deducted on an hourly basis in increments no smaller than one (1) hour.
Paid Leaves of Absence. A. Definition of Immediate Family - Current spouse, children, parents, sister, brother, grandchildren, grandparents of employee and current spouse.
Paid Leaves of Absence. A. At the beginning of each school year, each teacher shall be credited with THIRTEEN (13) leave days. All current sick and business days will be rolled into leave days. Unused days will be capped at ninety (90) days for teachers hired after August 1, 2002. Unused days may accumulate without limit for teachers hired before August 1, 2002. Each teacher shall be notified in writing before the end of September of the total number of unused leave days accumulated. Once a teacher has accumulated more than ninety (90) unused leave days, a teacher may cash in those days that exceed ninety (90) unused leave days, at fifty percent (50%) of the daily substitute pay rate in effect at the time the teacher chooses to cash them in. The request to cash in unused leave days must be made before May 15th and will be negotiated during the first pay period of June. No more than forty (40) unused leave days may be cashed in for any given school year. Upon retirement or layoff (Reduction in Force) from Athens Area Schools' employment, a teacher will be compensated for each unused leave day at a rate of sixty dollars ($60) per day. Bargaining unit members will have the option of cashing out leave days under this provision when laid off, but days paid out will no longer exist for a member who may be recalled to service. Days must be requested by September 30.
B. At the beginning of each school year, at the discretion of the Association, each teacher may contribute up to two (2) of their accumulated leave days to a common Sick Bank administered by the Association. Teachers who have exhausted their leave because of long-term illness or disability may request leave from the Sick Bank in increments of no more than thirty (30) additional leave days to a maximum of one hundred eighty (180) days or one (1) school year whichever is less. The maximum number of days granted from the Sick Bank cannot exceed the total number of days in the Sick Bank during any one year. The Association shall be responsible for granting and denying of said requests. The Association shall immediately notify the Superintendent's office of any withdrawals from the Sick Bank and in no case shall notification lapse more than five (5) days.
C. A teacher who is unable to teach more than five (5) consecutive work days because of illness or disability shall submit a statement from a physician documenting the illness/disability and estimating the expected duration of the absence.

Paid Leaves of Absence. Subd. 1. Principals shall earn sick leave with pay at the rate of 17 days per year. Subd.
Paid Leaves of Absence a. At the beginning of each school year, each employee shall be granted 12 leave days. The number of leave days will be prorated if the employee works less than a full year. Upon five, ten, and fifteen years of service to the district, an additional leave day is added (5 years-13 total leave days/year; 10 years-14 total leave days/ year; 15 years- 15 total leave days/year). Requests for leave days that fall before or after a non-student day or on a professional development day that would extend a vacation, shall be granted only in emergency or extraordinary situations and must be approved by the principal and the Superintendent.
b. Earned but unused leave days may be accumulated up to, but not exceeding 120 days.
c. Upon retirement from the District or separation from the District (excluding termination for cause by Employer) after fifteen years of employment with the district, each bargaining unit member shall be paid $37.50 per day for each unused accumulated leave day up to 120 days.
d. Employees who do not use any of their leave days during the school year, maintaining perfect attendance, shall be eligible for a one-time payment per year of one hundred fifty dollars ($150) to be included in the last paycheck issued in June.
