Purposes of Which Sick Leave May Be Used. Employees may use sick leave for absence due to personal illness, pregnancy, injury, exposure to contagious disease which could be communicated to others, death of a friend or relative, and for absence due to illness or injury in the employee’s immediate family. If accumulated sick leave is not sufficient to cover the length of absence, the employee may be placed on leave of absence without pay for the remainder of the school year in which the absence occurred.
