Common use of Safety Advocate Clause in Contracts

Safety Advocate. An Electrical Journeyperson with technical background and expertise that enables them to; be viewed as an expert on how to safely and efficiently complete the work ; influence management; be a leader who demonstrates courage to act and intervene when required; provide interpretation and clarification on the application of approved work procedures, safety rules and standards; a leader who can work alongside crews to evaluate, observe and provide feedback on Safety Leadership, Work Methods and Job Planning; provide technical advisory support through a help desk; provide regular summaries as requested on the key themes and observations impacting safety in the workplace along with corrective action recommendations; and provide regular input to the SPR and other Committees regarding rules, work methods, procedures and equipment that require attention or revision. Assignments to this position will be advertised internally through an ‘expression of interest’. Selections into Safety Advocate positions will be made by BC Hydro on the basis of Merit and Efficiency, after consultation with the IBEW Business Manager, or his delegate. Senior Operator When two or more Operators are on a shift without the supervision of a shift manager, one of the operators will be assigned the shift and designated as the Senior operator. The senior operator will work as an Operator and provide general supervision to the operating personnel with whom they are working to ensure that work is carried out safely, efficiently and expeditiously. Senior Steam Control Operator A Senior Steam Control Operator is a Power Engineer holding a Second Class Certificate. They shall be directly responsible to their immediate supervisor for the operation of the main boilers and the supervision of plant operation, which shall include the issuing of safety protection guarantees. In addition they shall supervise and co-ordinate the work of the operating crew. They shall be responsible for the prompt reporting of defects or faults which require the attention of maintenance personnel or others. Under the direction of the area control centre they may be required to operate switchyard equipment by remote control.
