State vector. ‌ The state parameters defining the radiative properties of the observed medium are divided into two categories. The first one, noted x, represents the state variables that are retrieved from the observations yΩΛ˜ and is referred to as the state vector. The second one, noted b, represents those parameters that also have a non-negligeable radiative effects on the observed medium but may not be reliably estimated from those measurements. They are referred to as the model parameters and are obtained from external source of information. The size of the state vector is noted nx. The state vector x is composed of the parameters xs defining the surface reflectance rs(x, b; m) in the SLSTR bands and the optical thickness associated to each vertex τv.
