Step One - Immediate Supervisor. An employee having a grievance will first attempt to resolve it with the employee’s immediate supervisor. Such attempt at resolution shall be made by the grievant within seven (7) calendar days of the occurrence of the incident or knowledge of the occurrence that gave rise to the grievance. Within seven (7) calendar days after meeting with the grievant, the supervisor shall submit to the grievant a written response to the grievance. If the grievant is not satisfied with the written response the grievant may pursue the grievance to Step Two.

Such attempt at informal resolution shall be made by the member-grievant within seven (7) calendar days of following the occurrence of the incident events or knowledge of the occurrence that gave circumstances giving rise to the grievance. Within Grievances brought to the supervisor (except as otherwise provided herein) beyond the seven (7) calendar days after meeting with the grievant, the supervisor day limit shall submit to the grievant a written response to the grievance. If the grievant is not satisfied with the written response the grievant may pursue the grievance to Step Twobe considered.

Sergeants only shall submit their grievances directly to Step 2 within the incident or knowledge of the occurrence that gave rise to the grievanceinitial time limits. Within seven (7) calendar days after meeting with the grievant, the supervisor shall submit to the grievant a his written response to the grievancegrievance after conferring with the Chief and the Personnel Director. If the grievant is not satisfied with the written response the grievant he/she may pursue the grievance to Step Two2.
