SURFACE WATER PATHWAY CONCLUSIONS. The nearest surface water bodies to the Site are the Mary’s River and the Willamette River. Because the Site is on a terrace, surface water most likely flows northwest to the Mary’s River from the residential properties. Surface water from the WPRR railroad and Xxxxxx County Shops which are at a lower elevation flows east into storm drains which flow into the Mill Race. The Mill Race flows into the Mary’s River just above the confluence with the Willamette River. The major use of river water within the 15-mile TDL is for irrigation and recreation. A variety of xxxx Xxxxx Street - PA 8 July 28, 2003 CERCLIS No. ORN001002357 populate the rivers included threaten salmon species. The closest downstream drinking water intake is about 8 miles downstream of the Site on the Willamette River. It is unknown if surface water in the Mary’s River or the Willamette River have been impacted from the Site. However, the surface water pathway is not considered significant because the groundwater and soil contamination appear localized and 0.25 mile away from the nearest water body. There was no evidence of overland flow, but untreated storm water from the WPRR railroad and the Xxxxxx County Shops eventually drains into the Mary’s River near the confluence with the Willamette River.

SURFACE WATER PATHWAY CONCLUSIONS. The surface water pathway is not a significant pathway at this site because of the lack of flooding and surface water runoff based on the elevated nature of the landfill, the permeable soils, and the low rainfall.
