Teacher Workload. The District and the Association will continue to work in good faith toward assisting classroom teachers with an overload of students that adversely affects the education environment of the classroom. This includes situations in which teachers have a disproportionate number of high needs students for which they are responsible. In an effort to ensure an appropriate educational environment for all students, this assistance may come in the form of, but not be limited to, additional paraeducator assistance or additional classroom materials. Through timely and on-going communication between the District and the Association, mutually agreed upon remedies will be implemented.
1. In order to preserve an educationally appropriate environment, classroom teachers may apply for a review of their current classroom conditions that they deem are adversely affecting the educational process. A special review team, consisting of the principal, the ▇▇▇▇ of students, two teachers (one representative from grades K-5 and one from grades 6-12) and additional support staff as needed, will analyze the classroom conditions stated in the application and provide recommendations to alleviate the adverse conditions when appropriate. This team is urged to provide recommendations in a timely manner, and within no more than seven working days.
A. The application for workload relief includes criteria pertinent to the situation. This application is to be submitted to the building principal who will convene a meeting of the workload committee to review the situation. This application is found in the teacher’s handbook, and attached as Exhibit D of this agreement.
B. The application for workload relief, and any remedies provided as a result of such application, will pertain only to the current school year. Classroom teachers must submit a new application form for subsequent school years.
C. In each situation, the superintendent is responsible for making the final decision on teacher workload relief to be provided.
Teacher Workload. 27.1 Every teacher shall have a lunch break of at least thirty (30) minutes per day between the hours of 11:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m.
27.2 Teachers required to travel for the purposes of their assigned duties shall have a lunch break of at least thirty (30) minutes per day between the hours of 11:00 a.m. and 1:00 p.m. separate and apart from the required travel time and preparation time as cited in the Teachers’ Provincial Agreement - Article 59 Appendix F.
27.3 The essential health and welfare needs of teachers shall be accommodated within their workload.
27.4 The Board and the Union agree that issues of workload may properly be referred to the Management-Teacher Committee for consideration and recommendation.

Teacher Workload a) A full-time Teacher shall be assigned 6 periods.
i) In addition to the 6 scheduled periods above, effective for the 2008- 2009 school year a full-time Teacher shall be assigned to a maximum of 64 half-periods of "Other Professional Duties", which shall include some combination of on-calls, supervision, student mentoring, and teacher mentoring. Within the maximum number of half-periods of Other Professional Duties set forth above, a Teacher may be assigned a maximum of twenty-five (25) half-period worked on-calls. A "half period" means up to a maximum of thirty-seven and one-half (37.5) minutes.
ii) Effective for the 2009-2010 school year, a full-time Teacher shall be assigned to a maximum of 58 half periods of Other Professional Duties. Within the maximum number of half-periods of Other Professional Duties set forth above, a Teacher may be assigned a maximum of twenty-five (25) half-period worked on-calls.
Teacher Workload. .1 Full time Secondary School Teachers shall be on duty and assigned in a fair and equitable manner under the direction of the Principal and/or designate.
.2 The instructional teaching schedule for teachers shall be in accordance with the Education Act and Regulations and other Acts and Regulations as revised.
.3 The implementation of scheduled time is in accordance with the following guidelines:
a) All full-time classroom teachers will be assigned timetabled duties consisting of credit courses, credit equivalent courses, equivalent programs.
b) No classroom teacher shall be assigned more than six (6) credit/assignment courses per year.
c) No classroom teacher shall be assigned more than three (3) credit/assignment courses per semester.
d) A part-time teacher assignment shall be calculated as a percentage of full-time teaching assignment and shall be prorated accordingly.
e) All unassigned time shall be available for teacher as preparation and planning time.
f) Teachers will be available for a maximum of September 1, 2008 16 on-calls + 200 minutes (1400 minutes)
g) A maximum of 150 minutes of supervision and/or the equivalent of 4 half periods (based on a normally scheduled school day) of on-calls may be assigned per week. The principal may assign full period on-calls if requested by the teacher. On altered schedule days, full period coverage may be assigned into the shortened periods, as long as these periods do not exceed fifty minutes. For clarity, any supervision time assigned under .3i) below is not included in these maximum weekly calculations.
h) Secondary Teachers shall be available to students in their classroom fifteen minutes prior to the first scheduled class of the day. Such time shall not constitute supervision/on-call or instructional time.
i) Any assigned secondary supervision duty during the times as outlined in h) above, such as but not limited to bus duty, hall duty and/or yard duty shall constitute supervision/on-call time.
4 a) Guidance Counsellors, SUCCESS, ESL, Co-Operative Education Teachers and Special Education Resource Teachers may be assigned to their areas for the full school day with an unstructured timetable equivalent to four

Teacher Workload. Effective September 1, 2005, the following provisions shall be in effect and shall be applied:
13.01 Each full-time Teacher shall be assigned a maximum of 6.0 periods in a school year.
13.01.01 In schools where Multi-Subject Instructional Periods (MSIP) exist, assignments in one 60-minute period shall count as one period of assignment.
13.01.01.01 For each period of assignment defined in 13.01 allocated in a semester, a teacher shall be assigned an additional 22.5, 60-minute periods in that same semester. Such additional assignments shall be to an MSIP period. A teacher assigned to a non-credit course in a semester may be assigned, in lieu of MSIP periods, the additional 22.5, 60-minute periods within the same non-credit course assignment in that same semester. The teacher shall be advised prior to the beginning of the semester. A teacher shall not be assigned more than one MSIP period (or equivalent) per day. 13.01.01.02 No more than 33 students shall be allocated to any one MSIP period.
13.01.02 When making such assignments to a Teacher, the Principal shall limit the number of half-credit assignments to two (2) per year and consider the preference of the teacher with respect to a half-credit assignment. Upon consent, in writing, a teacher may accept more than two (2) half-credit assignments per year.
13.01.03 The Principal shall make every reasonable effort to limit a teacher’s assignment of multilevel, multi-grade or multi-subject courses to one per year.
13.02 To ensure the safety of students and to support the learning environment, teachers will be assigned additional Alternative Professional Assignments which shall be comprised of a combination of on-calls, student supervision, student mentorship and teacher mentorship
13.02.01 On an annual basis, teachers shall be assigned the following total number of half-periods of Alternative Professional Assignments: Sept. 1, 2005 55 69 Sept. 1, 2007 52 65 13.02.02 No more than 60 percent of the half-periods as outlined in Article 13.02.01 shall be assigned as on-calls to any teacher
Teacher Workload. For the school year 2004/2005, all existing provisions and practices respecting teacher workload will remain in effect. For the balance of the term of this collective agreement, and having regard to the teacher complement in paragraph 9.01, the following shall apply:
