The interaction between HLA Sample Clauses

The interaction between HLA. C and leukocyte Ig-like receptors Leukocyte Ig-like receptors (LILRs) are a family of stimulatory (LILRA) and inhibitory (LILRB) molecules expressed by myeloid cells and professional APC. LILRs bind HLA class I molecules to inhibit NK cell activity, but they can also influence adaptive responses by modulating cytokine release, co-stimulatory receptor expression and antigen presentation. Thus, it has been suggested that the interaction of LILRs with FHC HLA molecules may represent a novel immune regulation mechanism (Xxxxx, Xxxxxxxxx et al. 2004). In-vitro studies of HLA class I alleles have shown that the presence of a cysteine at residue 1 (Cys1) and/or an aspartic acid at residue 9 (Asp9) influence the binding of LILR-A1, -A3 and -B2 to free heavy chain (FHC) forms of specific HLA-C alleles (- Cw*0602, -Cw*0702, -Cw*1802). Interestingly most alleles carrying the Cys1 variant (e.g. -Cw*0602) are in xxxxxx XX with the -35 Kb polymorphism which is associated with slow HIV progression (Xxxxxx, Xxxx et al. 2009).
