Positions such as clerk typist, data entry and 20 teachers’ assistants are some of the possible opportunities for Alternate Duty training.

Training Assignment. 8 (A) A minimum of two (2) Fire Captains shall be assigned to the Training 9 Division to serve as Training Captains. Filling the Training Captain 10 positions shall be on a seniority basis in accordance with Article 28.
Training Assignment. In the event in-house applicants for a vacant position do not meet the minimum knowledge, skills and abilities qualifications in the class specification, the Agency may develop an on- the-job training assignment to allow an otherwise acceptable candidate with an acceptable performance appraisal and no department disciplinary action on file to qualify. (c) The above premium shall not apply to employees whose job duties/classification includes training duties.

(B) Should no current Fire Captains or Fire Engineer volunteer to fill a vacant position(s) in the Training Division, the position shall be filled on a seniority basis, starting with the Fire Captain/Fire Engineer with eighteen (18) months in classification and having the least in-grade seniority. (C) A Fire Captain or Fire Engineer assigned to the Training Division shall serve a minimum of twelve (12) months in this position. The length of commitment may be extended by mutual agreement of the Fire Captain or Fire Engineer and the Fire Chief. Once a Fire Captain or Fire Engineer has served his/her mandatory 12-month period in training, they will not be obligated to another 12-month rotation until all other eligible Captains have served their 12-month training obligation.
