Transportation to Laboratory. Collection site personnel shall arrange to ship the collected specimens to the laboratory. The specimens shall be placed in containers designed to minimize the possibility of damage during shipment (i.e., specimen boxes or padded mailers) and those containers shall be securely sealed to eliminate the possibility of undetected tampering. On the tape sealing the container, the collection site person shall sign and enter the date the specimen was sealed in the container for shipment. The collection site person shall ensure that the chain-of-custody documentation is attached to each container sealed for shipment to the laboratory.

A. Short-Term Refrigerated Storage: Specimens shall be placed in secure refrigeration units. Temperatures shall not exceed six (6) degrees centigrade. Emergency power equipment shall be available in case of prolonged power failure.
