Union ReleaseReasonable release time without pay shall be provided by the University to persons named by the Union for the conduct of Union business; this release time shall be provided in section units. The provision of the said release time is contingent on suitable arrangements being made for the carrying out of the contractual duties to the University of the persons released.

Union Release. The Board shall grant a leave of absence to a Teacher who holds an office either requiring full-time duty, or not, at the provincial or local level, provided that the Union reimburses the Board for the cost of the Teacher’s total salary and other benefits. The Teacher shall continue to accumulate seniority and teaching experience during the period of leave. An employee returning from a Union leave shall be assigned to an equivalent position, within their attendance area, to that which was held prior to the leave, subject to the section on Release of Surplus Staff.
Union Release. The Union shall indemnify, defend, and hold the Board, its members, officials, agents or representatives or the University, its Employees, agents, or representatives harmless against any claim, demand, suit, or any form of liability (monetary or otherwise), including attorney's fees and costs, arising from any action taken or not taken by the Board, its members, officials, agents, or representatives or the University, its Employees, agents, or representatives in complying with this Article or in reliance on any notice, letter, or written authorization forwarded to the Board or the University pursuant to this Article. The Union assumes full responsibility and liability for the disposition of monies deducted from the salaries of Employees for Union dues by the University once the University has remitted such monies to the officer designated by the Union to receive such remittance. The Union shall promptly refund to the University any funds received pursuant to this Article which are in excess of the amount of dues which the University has agreed to deduct.
Union Release. 33.01 The Board shall grant release time to Union representatives in accordance with the terms and conditions set out in this Article. 33.02 Upon the written request of the Bargaining Unit President, or designate, the Board shall grant short term union release to Members of the Union for Bargaining Unit or provincial federation purposes. Such release time shall not normally exceed two (2) days at any one time and shall be taken in blocks of not less than one-half day. The actual time(s) of release time(s) shall be mutually agreed upon by the President, or designate, and the Director, or designate. Such release time shall be without loss of wages or benefits. In the event that a replacement Member is used to cover release time described above, the cost of the replacement Member shall be reimbursed by the Union. 33.03 In addition to the union release granted in clause 33.02, up to six (6) Members of the Bargaining Unit Collective Bargaining Committee shall be granted release time to attend Collective Bargaining preparation meetings as well as negotiation meetings with the Board. In the event that replacement Members are used to cover release time for Members to attend negotiation meetings with the Board, the cost of such replacement Members shall be shared by the Parties. 33.04 Release time shall be granted by the Board to Union representatives who are required to participate on Board committees which meet during the regularly scheduled work day of the Member. Subject to 33.05, in the event that a replacement Member is used to cover release time for such committee meetings, the Board shall pay for the cost of the replacement Member. 33.05 In addition to the union release granted in clauses 33.02 to 33.04 inclusive, the Board agrees that long term local release time shall be granted up to the equivalent of 1.50 full-time Members for the period of the term of office, to any Member who is elected as an officer of the Bargaining Unit. Approval for leave of a Member for less than full- time shall be subject to staffing requirements and the ability of the Board to accommodate these positions. The Bargaining Unit shall reimburse the Board for the wages and benefits of a replacement Member(s) required by the granting of such leave(s). 33.06 In addition to the leaves granted in clauses 33.02 to 33.05 inclusive, the Board agrees that release time shall be granted up to the equivalent of 1.00 full-time Member for the period of the term of office, up to two (2) years pe...
Union Release. The Union shall indemnify and hold harmless the Board, its members, officers, agents, and Employees from and against any and all claims, demands, actions, complaints, suits or other forms of liability including attorney's fees and cost that shall arise out of, or by reason of action taken by the Board for the purpose of complying with the above provisions of this Article, or in reliance of any list, notice, certification, affidavit, or assignment furnished by the Union under any such provisions.

Union ReleaseThe Board recognizes that it may be necessary for executive officers of the Union to be absent from their duties in order to attend to Union matters. Leave, without loss of salary or deduction of Sick Leave/Short Term Leave and Disability Plan (STLDP), up to a maximum of thirty (30) days in any school year shall be granted to the Union following a written request from the Union to the Superintendent of EducationHuman Resources and Administrative Services. Any individual executive officer will be allowed a maximum of ten (10) days per school year for such leave. Should the Union request release time for an individual that is greater than ten (10) days, the Board shall consider the request. The President of the local Union shall be granted 60 days of union leave without loss of salary or deduction of Sick Leave/Short Term Leave and Disability Plan (STLDP) in any school year. The President shall meet with the Superintendent of Education – Human Resources and Administrative Services or designate at the beginning of each school year to schedule the leave days. It is understood that in special circumstances, the local Union President may amend the schedule with prior consultation with the Board. The Local will reimburse the Board for total cost recovery of wages and benefits for Union release.
